The Festival of the Commons (CommonsFest) is an initiative to promote freedom of knowledge (or free knowledge) and peer-to-peer collaboration for the creation and management of the commons. Open Labs and the WMI team were invited from the organizers of Commons Fest for a WMKIt workshop in Heraclion (Crete, Greece) in order to spread the word about open hardware and ways of playing with electronics. THe event tool place from14 to 21 April and below are only some moments of the great time, the inspiration and the hospitality of the organisers.
We just delivered the first WeMakeIt in a German city called Kassel. Nieves is a student from Spain and asked for the kit during the end of year holidays. WeMakeIt is growing slowly and this makes us the happiest geeks on earth.
We get lot’s of questions about the kit and how it is to prepare one. That’s why we decided to take some pictures from Open Labs hackerspace, the place where all the magic happens for the majority of the tasks for the moment before expanding to other cities in the Balkans. Enjoy:
WMKIT is a microcontroller educational kit created with the goal to make you have fun. Beyond this, the aim is to get you comfortable using a wide range of electronic components through small, simple and easy circuits and experiments. The focus is to get each circuit working then giving you the tools to figure out why.
We are using open hardware components and open source software for this project and we encourage you to share the results with us and everyone. The videos, images and text on this website are also published on Creative Commons License.
